With the inception of social media, several industries boomed along with it. One of them is the Creator economy.

As social media popularised, not just celebrities, but also common people kickstarted their journey into content creation in diverse niches ranging from fashion to travel blogging. Within no time it changed the face of the entire influencer marketing industry. Brands no longer go after movie stars or cricketers to promote their products but resort to these creators to reach a diverse set of audiences aligning with their brand interests.

If you are an active and avid social media user, I am sure you all must have come across these statements.

Follow your dreams. Work for yourself and not for others. The Creator economy is the future.

As glamorous as it sounds, should you really leave your job to get into content creation full-time?

Well, the short and simple answer is, Only if you are dedicated enough. It is worth leaving your job and getting into it full-time.

But, first thing first: Content creation is equally, if not more, challenging as compared to a job and it requires immense hard work, sacrifices, and tremendous efforts each day to keep up with the changing pace of the digital world and evolve along with it. It’s no piece of cake.

Yes, it takes time and a lot of effort to grow your audience digitally, but the RoI is amazing once you have established yourself. An average Instagram creator earns $5000 or 2-3 lakhs per month. There are people who have turned millionaires through content creation but one should keep in mind that social media is unpredictable and what worked for others may not work for you. So being authentic and passionate about it is the only way through which you can stand out among hundreds of other creators.

You should go for content creation full-time ONLY if:

  • You are extremely passionate about content creation and love creating videos, and connecting with people, and don’t find it stressful. This is non-negotiable. You will face difficult times but passion can keep you sailing through the downs in the journey.
  • Your social media income is more than your full-time job. Leaving your job to start content creation from scratch may not be a wise decision financially.
  • You have an alternate income source to fall back to in case things go south.

If you think you have what it takes, don’t be afraid, do what you love and see the magic!
